“Rome is not like any other city. It’s a big museum, a living room that shall be crossed on one’s toes.”
Rome is known as being on nearly everyone’s bucket list destination. No matter if you are a historian, a foodie, a lover of the arts, a Christian, Roman architecture, movie buff, etc. Rome is probably on your bucket list too. There are many reasons why Rome makes everyone’s list. It could be the magnificent Colosseum that attracts millions of tourists each year, or the Vatican City and its loyal Christian servants. It could be the ancient ruins that are still visible in the city, or the amazing food that one can indulge while walking the many plazas of Rome. Rome has it all and when you visit it for the first time, you will quickly realize why this city is in everyone’s bucket list.
From Rome, you are going to be able to enjoy plenty of tours and excursions. It’s location in the knee of Italy allows it to be a few hours away from most major attractions in Italy. Day trips are popular when visiting Rome which allows you to experience more of Italy without having to transfer to a different city. Popular day trips include a trip to Pompeii, the world famous Amalfi coast, day trip to Florence, Pissa and more. No matter where you go, the excursions one can take from Rome are one of a kind and worth the time and price. You will be able to check off several items from your bucket list from one city.
One of the reasons why Rome is in a lot of people’s bucket list is because of the food. Italian food is a favorite around the world, from pastas to pizza, the Italians have introduced many of people’s favorite dishes. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to eat authentic Italian pizza at one of many Italian restaurants. Don’t be afraid to try pizza the way the pizza Gods intended it to be done, with anchovies, mozzarella balls, tomato sauce, rosemary and olive oil. The pizza you are used to back in the states does not compare with the flavors and aromas the pizza in Italy has to offer. If pasta is what you prefer, you’re in the right place. Pasta is in abundance here and the flavors you will taste will leave you wanting trying more. Here I discovered pasta carbonara which has quickly become one of my favorite dishes of all time. For dessert, you can not leave Italy without trying their gelato. It’s like ice cream but softer, creamier and a more natural ice cream. Think of it like yogurt ice cream but way more delicious. The Italians are also known for having great coffee choices, amazing wine, quality beers and prosecco (the Italian sparkling wine).
There are plenty of hotels, airbnbs, hostels and other places for you to stay at when visiting Rome. Depending on your budget and your preference, there are many different places you can spend your days in Rome. You can go to the town over at Trastevere and save some euros while enjoying the older parts of Rome, or you can stay in the heart of Rome where all the action is. No matter where you stay, you will always be a short walk from the metro or public transportation, which makes exploring easy and convenient for you.
